I am Ashurbanipal
Digital interpretations of objects that are unsuitable for travel to international venues.
This exhibition tells the story of Ashurbanipal through the British Museum’s unparalleled collection of Assyrian treasures.
It is a touring exhibition based loosely on the same structure as the 2019 Bloomsbury exhibition; however, many objects are unable to travel, so NewAngle was commissioned to create 3 digital animations to represent them.
Nineveh, a door sill, is a projection-mapped animation that gradually reveals the original colour onto a representation of the door sill.
The Banquet Scene showcases stories represented on a tablet relief.
We created an animation that has a 3d relief effect, giving the impression that the physical object is on display.
Using feathered outlines, we highlighted content along with dual language story segments and an atmospheric audio track.
The Scholar King immerses visitors in an atmospheric and abstract representation of Ashurbanipal’s library using a projection and screens.
Tablets appear suspended in space, slowly encircling visitors, conveying the scale of the collection and creating ethereal drama.
An atmospheric soundscape is accompanied by a voiceover reading the tablet scripts in Assyrian.
All the films were created in dual language so that international venues could easily add a second language.
